Description:
A major part of our program is our Literacy/Journalism in Education Department. The program teaches students journalism basics, investigative reporting and interviewing, journalism writing, copy editing, and production. All classes are aimed at cultivating students’ critical thinking abilities. In order to compliment both the Journalism and the Broadcast sections of our program and to deepen our students’ cultural, business, science and social perspectives, we take several educational trips during the year. Students also write, edit and help publish the SNN Newspaper, assist in producing a television program that is broadcasted on BCAT, the Brooklyn Public Access Television station.
During the summer for 7 weeks, we hold our annual SNN day camp. Children engage themselves in reading, math, and writing in the morning, and are involved in a variety of acitivities in the afternoon such as: arts and crafts, karate, dance, sports, and video broadcasting.
