Description:
Hello! I am Kitty, owner operator of Organically Grown~ The O.G. Baby daycare in Olathe. I am a licensed daycare provider, as well as a Licensed Nurse. I have been providing quality daycare as my full time employment for the last 5+ years, when I quit my more lucrative nursing job in order to spend my time with children. I am a mom of 9 and I have been thru all the trials and expense of needing daycare for my own children, so I understand the unique challenges facing working parents.

I have over 500 sqft (an entire floor) dedicated strictly to my daycare, with its own private entrance. We moved here so that I could offer the best to the children in my care...come and see the difference a high quality program can make in the life of your child.

Regular hours are 7:30am to 5:30 pm. We also accommodate part time schedules on a limited basis. We are licensed as a 2 person daycare group, which helps us to better meet the needs of the children in our care.

We participate in the Food Program, so you know your child is receiving nutritious meals. We are authorized thru the state to accept SRS families.

We base our teachings on the modern knowledge that children learn best thru play. Children are much more creative when the answer is not provided by adults. For example, rather than show a child how to do something and limiting the child's process of discovery, we provide supplies, tools and the OPPORTUNITY for them to manipulate the environment around them and make their own independent discoveries.

If a child wants to build with blocks, we might fit them together in front of a one or two year old, just so they see how the parts are fitted. They will give it a go, plus taste them, bang them, and toss them. All of these actions gives them information. For a 2 or 3 year old, we let them go at it, and have them tell us what they made. We give them social perimeters- blocks are for many things but not for bonking your friends in the head or scraping paint off the walls. You would be amazed what kids come up with. I once had a whole room full of kids cook me an imaginary meal entirely with plastic plates and Duplo blocks!

We will NOT "teach" your toddler/ preschooler rote material. They will not be handed repetitive, meaningless worksheets as their daily "education". Children do not learn effectively in this way. There are many ways to teach colors, numbers, letters, as well as early math and language concepts. The best way is when young children are having so much fun they do not know they are being taught! Rather than a work sheet with a big "R" on it with directions to color it red, a child learns better if they can connect the things in their environment. For example, dump out a bunch of colored wooden blocks and ask " ok who can bring me a red block?" or a blue square, etc. We will of course do regular old coloring pages, plus painting, crafts, gluing, and so forth. We provide indoor and out door physical play, music and movement, dramatic play, etc.

Age appropriate social skills is the MOST important part of school readiness. The ability to take turns, share, be polite, consider the needs and feelings of others, following directions- these are the skills that will determine how successful and enjoyable your child's early school years become. We spend alot of our time monitoring these social behaviors and guiding children based on their age and maturity.
