Pocatello Valley Montessori School offers educational schooling for children age 18 months through third grade. Using a Montessori approach, children are taught independence and to become self-directed learners. Beginning at the earliest ages, children are taught focus and concentration, peace-making skills, and practical life skills like cooking, buttoning, sweeping. Toddlers learn toileting skills, if they don't have them yet. Preschoolers begin their academic journey with Montessori sensorial works that help them explore their visual, auditory, tactile and other senses. As they progress, they learn letter sounds, numbers. Science is taught through real life experiences like caring for plants or a class pet. Students learn geography with wooden puzzle maps and the study of continents. Art and music round out the curriculum so that children are well prepared for elementary school.
